THE BRIEF HISTORY TAGUM CITY NATIONAL COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL

Tagum City national Comprehensive High School lies within the twelve hectare DavNor Sports Complex at the sparawling capitol site in Mankilam, Tagum City. The area is approxiamately three kilometers away from the busy center of the city and lies at the heart of the provincial government site.

Tagum City is the first component city of Davao del Norte togeteher with the Island City of Samal. Davao del Norte is the biggest province in Region XI and the 9th biggest in the country with an area of 8,129 sq. km.

The name of the school was coneived as Davao del Norte Provincial High School and then changed to Davao Provincial High School upon assumption of Mrs. Coarazon C. Aquino to the presidency. One of her top priority programs were free education for every Filipino  which eventually gives birth to the natinalizzation of public Secondary schools in all barangay, municipal, provincials and city schools all over the country.

The creation of the schools is a living legacy of the unity and binding efforts of the government officials with the late Provincial Governor Gregorio R. Dujali as the prime mover and then the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (Now Department of Education) under the stewardship of the Schools Divison Superintendent, Mrs. Eulalia B. Basañes.

It was Mr. Fernando Mandalihan, a former MECS Education Supervisor who made the feasibility study upon request by Gov. Dujali in his desire to put up a high school within the vicinity of the sports complex. This isthe very reason why Davao national High School came into existence on that momentous day of  June 1983.

Upon approval of the proposed project, Mrs Eulalia B. Basañes personally screened teahers to be assigned in the newly-established high school.

The first batch of appointees were composed of seven teachers in the person of:

Mrs. Florita J. Vergara - MA in Filipino, acting as the Oficer-in-Charge.

Mrs. Nena M. Oquias - Home Economics major an incharge of canteen operation.

Ms. Rosalinda P. Gado - Mathematics major, acting as office clerk.

Mrs. Meguelita M. Lubiano - Filipino Major

Mrs. Salvacion. R. Mama - Mathematics major

Mr. Isagani T. Batiao - English major

Mr. Efren B. Baldonado - BS in Industrial Education, major in Arts.

They occupied the Davao Spoerts Complex gym which is now called Rodolfo del Rosario (RDR) Boy Scout Training Center. Classrooms appeared to be in cubicle form. The Aguinaldo Development Corportion donated plywood, tables, cabinet and other office parapahrnalia through the generosity of its manager, Mr. Regino Vergara, the kind and supportive better half of Mrs. Florita J. Vergara.

In its first year of operation, First Year and Second Year with two sections each were made availabale with an initial population of 205 students.

Mr. Ramon Y. Alba, the Assitant Schools Division Superintendent and Acting Supervising Principal, let no stone unturned to meet the challenging demands of a neophyte school. He led out efforts for the growth and development of the school in all pahase of education. The school's existence, it's role and importance to the community it serves were felt and seem immediately after its operation.

It was in the school year 1984-1985 that the supervisor of the school was delagated to Mr. Manuel C. Fuentes, an administrative Officer II of the office of the Provincial Governor's Office. His expertise as a classroon teacher for a long time contributed much to the success and fast-growing develpment of the school.

The school was transfered to its permanent site on a 10,000sq. m. area beside the Davao sports Complex. This area is part of the donated property of the late Doña Margarita Magsanoc Aala. It started only with only ywo buildings with five classrooms each. On its second year of operation, faculty members rose to twenty- one and the population was doubled with the openig of third year and fourth year level. The first batch of graduates was composed of only fourteen males and nineteen females with Mr. Erwin R. Questo as the valedictorian, now a succesful Civil Engineer.

After three fruitful years of dedication to service as supervising
